Catedral de la Almudena, Madrid, Spain

Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Almudena here in Madrid.

The Virgin of the Almudena was supposedly re-discovered in the spot where the cathedral now stands, after being lost for centuries.

It had been hidden in the city wall when the Moors conquered Madrid way back in the day. Catholics love stories involving miracles and virgins.

It’s a pretty ugly cathedral, though. For more, try Nude Cyclists in Casa de Campo.

How did I end up in Spain? Why am I still here almost 20 years later? Excellent questions. With no good answer... Anyway, at some point I became a blogger, bestselling author and contributor to Lonely Planet. So there's that. Drop me a line, I'm happy to hear from you.
