SlutWalk Madrid?

I just found out about the SlutWalk movement from the best hobo journalist in America. Thanks for the heads up, Will!

Apparently, Constable Michael Sanguinetti (a Toronto police officer of Italian origins) started the whole thing by telling a group of law school students that to avoid being victimized, “women should avoid dressing like sluts.”

Apparently, the movement is sweeping the globe! It went viral, much like planking did a few years ago.

Sigh… I’m so out of the loop, I’ve never planked or slutwalked: that’s the unfortunate consequence of my decision to live as an expat. I’ll never be hip to the young people’s jive again, I’m afraid.

My research has failed to turn up any evidence of a SlutWalk happening in Madrid. Spain is always 10 years behind the rest of the world. (Well, sometimes it’s actually more like 20 years, or in extreme cases, 400 years behind.)

Perhaps slutwalking will never catch on in Madrid because there simply are no sluts to be found. All the women are saving themselves for marriage, apparently.

At least that’s what they always told me…

How did I end up in Madrid? Why am I still here 12 years later? Excellent questions. With no good answer... Anyway, at some point I became a blogger, bestselling author and contributor to Lonely Planet. So there's that. Drop me a line, I'm happy to hear from you.
