1523, Cuzco: Huaina Cápac – Eduardo Galeano

The Inca is staring at the sun. Not as a challenge, as his priests fear, but out of pity. Huaina Cápac feels pity for the sun, because as the sun is his father and the father of all the Incas since the beginning of time, he has no right to feel fatigue or boredom. The sun never rests or plays or forgets. He cannot miss his daily appointment and crosses the sky, today, on the same path as yesterday and tomorrow.

As he contemplates the sun, Huaina Cápac decides: “Soon I will die.”

Eduardo Galeano, one of the greats.

How did I end up in Spain? Why am I still here almost 20 years later? Excellent questions. With no good answer... Anyway, at some point I became a blogger, bestselling author and contributor to Lonely Planet. So there's that. Drop me a line, I'm happy to hear from you.
